The Final Final Girl

I'm currently reading through a number of ARCs that I committed to offering blurbs for. This weekend, I finished reading The Final Final Girl, written by the awesome James Kaine.

Before I get into the spoiler-free review, I wanted to share a funny story about our two final girl books. Thankfully, they are very different from one another, but for anyone that follows both of us, you'll know that we both released final girl trope books through the same publisher, within a few months of one another. The funniest part of all this, is we are friends and talk often via chat, yet for months neither of us realized the coincidence. Once we did, we both offered to read one another's book and provide a blurb (and be nosey to make sure we didn't have too many similarities in our books).

I'm happy to report that James has crafted a blockbuster slasher worthy of the big screen. There are multiple final girls in this book from different cases that end up crossing paths. The main protagonist is a girl named Maddie, who lives with Tourette syndrome. Knowing James personally and also reading his acknowledgments talking about his own son living with it, makes rooting for Maddie that much easier. She is an amazing final girl and readers are going to love her.

His name is Nobody, and he's one scary mofo.

It was a lot of fun reading along to see how the many different characters would intertwine in the plot and where it was headed. Earlier I called it a blockbuster slasher, and that's because it's easy to picture this on the big screen while watching viewers react to so many scenes.

This book releases 9/15/2026 through Wicked House Publishing, and I highly recommend preordering it, as it's the perfect fall slasher to get you ready for spooky season.
