Evil Dead Burn

We realize right from the opening scene that we are in for a wild ride in typical Evil Dead fashion. I love these movies so much. Dark. Gory. Funny. And while this one definitely leans into the darkness a lot, it still has the Evil Dead recipe that will keep me coming back every time.

After seeing this movie, I really want to go check out director Sébastien Vanicek's previous film, Infested — about deadly, reproducing spiders in an apartment complex. If he brought that same energy here, I can only imagine what that one looks like.

Funny enough, the final scene before the title credit comes on screen reminded me a lot of a scene I wrote in The Cursed Among Us. It made me dream even more than I already did of seeing it on the big screen someday. Anyways, I digress.

"I really wish I was able to avoid trailers before seeing this one. Some of the crazy scenes were kind of ruined by seeing clips ahead of time."

This movie deals with grief a bit more than the others in the series, which added a nice change of pace — but make no mistake, this movie was a gory blast. Without getting spoilery, the film follows a family dealing with the loss of a loved one, spending time at the uninhabited home that belonged to the grandparents. Let's just say they don't come to the home alone.

I also think the lead character is one of my favorites of the series. She deals with a lot during the movie, but maybe just as much before we even meet her. Souheila Yacoub absolutely kills it in this role.

My biggest issue was the CGI in the final showdown. The practical gore throughout looked awesome, but they could have done better with some of the effects near the end. Still, that wasn't enough to bring the rating down much.

For anyone going to see it — don't leave before the two end credit scenes. We get a nice surprise. Overall an 8 out of 10. I'm seeing mixed reactions online, but consider me firmly on the side of really enjoying it. It was groovy, baby. Even if I want to go take a shower after watching it.
