8 / 10 — Summer Blockbuster GoldThe first time I saw the trailer for this movie, I knew it was going to be an absolute blast. From the great cast, to the Amblin films vibes straight out of the 80's, my excitement level was super high going in.
I took my son to see it with me, and we both left extremely happy. There was humor, gore (pushing the PG-13 rating for sure!) and a lot of action, mostly in the second half of the film.
"This is the most fun I've had with a dinosaur movie since the original Jurassic Park."Anne Hathaway is flat-out awesome playing the role of protective mother Denise Platt, and Ewan McGregor is equally as entertaining as the down-on-his-luck, desperate dad Greg Platt.
The first half of the movie is mostly build up, getting to know the family and some of the key characters from the neighborhood, with small flashes of the threat to come. But I honestly loved that because the cast was so great it really helped build up to the eventual crazy second half.
Director David Robert Mitchell has really shown his range in Hollywood, never directing two movies that feel the same. This is the man behind the cult classic horror movie It Follows, which I also loved. I can't wait to see what he does next.
I highly recommend trying to see this one on the big screen, as it brings the nostalgia of summer blockbusters past, and give it a solid 8 out of 10.
